wordswag_15073188796611453091488.pngWeekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new)!
Grab a cup of coffee and share with us! What’s been going on in your life? What are your weekend plans? Is there a topic you’ve just been ruminating on that you want to talk about?
All are welcome! Just add your link to the Linky-List, and be sure to visit others and join in their conversations! The link will be open from January 5th at 7am (Pacific Time) until Monday January 8th at 7pm (Pacific Time) to give us a good range of “weekend”!

Welcome to the New Year!

I kicked off 2018 standing in the library – it’s the second year in a row that I’ve attended Loud In The Library, and I quite enjoyed it. Though, next year I may try something different — it looks like our local game museum did a thing for New Years Eve this year and if they repeat it next year I might try that.

I took Mom with me this year to Loud at the Library!

Other than the Library-based start, it’s been a pretty quiet year so far. I didn’t intend to start the year out with so much sleep, but it seems to be what my body wanted – I actually slept pretty much all day on the 1st. I woke up to eat, and went back to sleep. I wasn’t feeling sick, just tired.

Since I also spent a decent portion of the Christmas Holiday weekend sleeping I think it’s time to break that trend. I need sleep, sure, but I should be recharged by now. So this weekend I have other plans. And I’m going to make myself stick to them.

Saturday is nice and empty. But I’m going to force myself to get out of bed in the morning (I’ll sleep in a little, of course!) make breakfast and coffee, get dressed, and then sit down to do some writing/editing. I haven’t figured exactly how long I’ll make myself work – at least an hour, but if it starts to flow well then I’ll obviously give myself some more time to work on it. Then my afternoon is open to do whatever I want – working on one of my crochet projects, or reading being the two most likely candidates.

Sunday is busy-busy. Planning to Skype with a friend in the morning, and then going to a Russian Christmas celebration in the afternoon (hosted by a friend every year, it’s a nice open-house gathering with some good food and nice conversation), followed by my weekly game group (which has been on hiatus for the past two weeks) in the evening.
After three weeks in a row with three-day weekends, it’s kind of strange to realize that my weekend this time around is only two days long. I’m hoping that I can manage to be productive with them…. Especially since the following weekend is going to be my BIRTHDAY WEEKEND – which I really have no major plans for, but who knows what will come.

How was your week?  What does your coming weekend look like?

  1. While I am standing here watching for the fuel delivery truck to arrive in our really-cold area (near Woodstock NY), I am so thrilled to be looking at a new tarot deck that just arrived by post, Next World Tarot by Cristy C. Road (art and website here http://www.croadcore.org/drawings.htm ). It is superradical, very socially-aware and very diverse in representations. I love the visuals, and I love that the little book with it really tells stories. I am starting to read it now, and find it really absorbing. Oh, and I have to find who ate the peanuts and left the shells on the floor inside, since that means there are critters coming in somehow and I really need them to stay outside–

    1. I’m glad your fuel truck will be arriving! I was hearing about backups for fuel from my friends in Maine… yuck! The tarot cards sound spectacular — and I do hope you find and deal with those critters!

  2. How fun! Glad you enjoyed the library with your mom! Your Saturday sounded blissful! Getting used to these two day weekends will be a drag.. We enjoyed NYE planning our annual motorcycle road trip to Sturgis, South Dakota, as we do every year.. We had a great holiday, glad to hear you did too..

  3. We’re getting ready for the big game here in Atlanta, GA. We will be watching while at our favorite pub. We certainly don’t need to be out in all the hoopla.

  4. I seem to have been sleeping later in the mornings and just requiring more sleep in general this new year as well. It’s probably partly due to the extreme cold. It uses up more energy than usual. Happy Birthday for next weekend!

  5. The activity at the library sounds interesting and something I would attend too. I know the cold encourages us to sleep – it is so cold outside no one wants to go anywhere! Enjoy your week.

  6. Love the idea of a game group. Am I correct in assuming you get together and try out different games? Board games or something more techie? I understand the desire to sleep this time of year. I really miss the abundance of sunshine and the shorter days make me really lazy. Enjoy your week!

    1. This particular game group is a group of friends that I’ve (mostly) known since college (over 10 years now!). We meet up online and – at this point – mostly do RPG games (like, Dungeon’s and Dragon’s style) using online technology to help us play (since two of them are in Vermont, one in Maine and one in… somewhere else on the East Coast). 🙂
Shorter days, cold, it’s just hibernation weather, really!

  7. “Loud in the Library” sounds like so much fun. What a wonderful place to ring in the new year. I did a lot of sleeping over the holiday as well. It is always hard to get back to the regular grind of 2 day weekends. Have a great week!
