You are cordially invited to attend Taliana’s Garden Party!
Having returned from her journey through different worlds, following the eventful Birthday Party and, of course, the Masque that started it all, Taliana has decided to throw a Garden Party — in the hopes of getting to have a fun time with friends after an eventful year.
Please join us for another story-telling, blog-hopping event. Friends (old and new) are invited to craft a short story for the event. Simply post it on your blog between July 15th and 19th, with a link-back to the kickoff post (which will go up at 6 am PST on the 15th).
The “Rules” of the event:
Post your contribution between July 15th and July 19th and include a link-back to the original story page.
Please set the story in a garden that could be part of a large estate garden. This will help to create a labyrinth-like maze of garden spaces which Taliana can wander through.
A ghostly shadow or mysterious figure that is observed to the side of the action.
Something unusual or out of place within the world your story takes place.
Looking forward to the party – I sure hope you can attend!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you about how excited I am about the events coming this week. Taliana’s event starts Sunday morning, which I’m very excited about! This time around I’ve been doing some collaborative writing with friends for the event and am really enjoying that! Each person has their own style of writing and way of going about the story so it’s been fun to navigate that with them. I’m hoping that we’ll have more participants too… looking forward to the challenge!
Added to the challenge (and, honestly, the fun) is that Taliana’s event ends after A to Z starts. Which means there is going to be some overlap — particularly since the theme I chose is “Telling Tales.” I have some guest-posters in the month, which I’m excited about!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that the storytelling theme of my days lately continued at the Longreads Story Mixer I went to Friday night. It was part of the WordPress “Press Publish” event (which I sadly was unable to make it to on Saturday).
It was great to meet Kate, Audrey and Marziah, talk some blogging and writing talk, enjoy amazing food and hear great stories!
How has your week been? Do you have any plans for the coming week?
Today’s post is a part of the Weekend Coffee Share, graciously hosted by Part Time Monster every weekend! A time for us to come together, share a cup of coffee (or our beverage of choice) to share some of what is going on in our lives. It’s a lovely check-in time.
If we were having coffee I’d invite you to join me in the little coffee/reading nook I have. It’s rainy out, after over a week of beautiful weather — the perfect day to settle back and rest in the warmth of a cozy corner. The real corner is quite small — but we can pretend it big enough for us to settle in for a time for a short coffee chat.
How have you been doing this week? Anything going on that you want to chat about? How is the weather? Seriously, I’m intrigued by the way the weather is changing places — today is a more typical Oregon rainy day, but this week has been beautifully warm and sunny — which is so unusual.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that this past week was a bit of a challenge. I don’t really want to get into the details of why, it was just the kind of week that called for some venting time with friends after work. I was so happy to have friends who were willing to do just that. One of the things I love about where I’m living now is that I have friends nearby who are able to get out with me sometimes — for coffee, or drinks, or those moments when you just need some deep-fried greasy food — to vent together, laugh, and commiserate.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you how excited I am about the blogging events coming up. Taliana’s next adventure is already shaping up to be a lot of fun — I’m really enjoying the chance to do some collaborative writing with a few friends and some bloggers I’ve met this year and hoping that some new participants will join in the fun.
I’m also preparing for the A to Z Blogging Challenge. I participated in one of the Tweet-Chats this week, and made some new great connections. So now, I’m looking forward to my very-first guest posts — and to be hosting a guest poster on this site as well! More about that all will be coming soon!
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that this coming week is going to be a challenge for me. I am already planning to step back a bit for social media, maybe only checking in on things during my commute. Finals week is the busiest time in my office, and it could be pretty hectic this term, so I’m anticipating needing to make sure that I am relaxing on my breaks and when I get home. Including a lot of sleep so that I’m not tempted to over-caffeinate. Self-care and all that.
Now, on to writing. This weekend I’m aiming to get a lot of work done on my different projects — though I am already getting a bit of a slow start…. Best get to it! Hope you have a good/productive weekend!

In other news — this long weekend is being dedicated to working on Disparate Threads, and (hopefully) getting some work done on Bria Lana (whose story really needs a name… anyhow, it’s the novel I started ages ago that I am hoping to finish drafting during NaNo this year. So I am trying to do some edits/close reads of my earlier work in order to have a good outline to work from come November). I plan to invite you all to join me for Coffeeagain tomorrow too — it was an interesting week and I want to share some about it — and would love to hear about your week.
Anyhow, bloglovin link up… now.. back to work! If you really want to follow some of my random thoughts while I’m working on this writing, follow me over on Twitter, that seems to be where I do my random brain-dumps from time to time 🙂
Because, why not? Suzie81 Speaks did this little question-thing, which I stumbled on through Sourcerer –I do love how I keep finding new things to read through different blogs, because, I don’t have nearly enough 🙂 Thought it might be fun to join the experiment! For Science!
To quote: “Here’s how it works:
Answer the questions below, either in your own post (link it back to this one) or in the comment section below. They can be as short or as detailed as you like.
The post will remain open for the next three days (uhm, apparently until the end of today, August 14th), during which I will compile all the answers. Any answers you provide will be directly linked to your blog, and I will include examples of everybody’s answers in the follow up post.”
Now, the questions and my answers!
1. How did you create the title for your blog?
I remember agonizing over it for a while with my roomie. I wanted something that wouldn’t box me in, but that would encapsulate me somehow. Eclectic worked… as did the start of my name 🙂
2. What’s the one bit of blogging advice you would give to new bloggers?
Have fun with it, but also think about what you’re doing. Just like everything on the internet, once you put it out there, it’s out there. Also, be part of the community, visit other blogs, hold conversations, read other people’s posts. Oh! And don’t be a number chaser, those people whose actions are clearly just because they are trying to raise their numbers, or promote their own things without ever contributing or giving to others… that’s really annoying.
3. What is the strangest experience you’ve ever had?
