It’s supposed to be rainy here, so let’s enjoy some cozy tea. My stomach has been being a bit of a problem lately, so I’ve actually been avoiding coffee (not the cause of the problem, but certainly doesn’t settle well either). I do need to remember to take the remaining cold brew that I have and make up some coffee ice cubes for later use.
Other than the troublesome tummy (I see the gastroenterologist on Friday so hopefully I’ll start getting some answers soon) things have been going okay. I’m now up to having three classes for school, and they’re all very interesting ones. One is the full-semester one about Data Mining which has been going well, though I do need to dedicate a bit more time to it since there are some details that I want to understand better about the software we’re using.
This week also started my “Reference in the Age of Google” class, which looks at the work of Reference Librarians in our modern, technological, time. It’s going to be really interesting to dig into for the rest of the semester. There is a final project for that class, and one of the options is a paper that is written with publication in mind, so I think I’m going to work on that. One of my goals in this program is to get something in an Academic Journal before I’m done.
The final class is a one-month long seminar on Copyright Law, a real overview and materials-gathering kind of class which will end with a good resource for me to reference when I’m actually out in the field and copyright questions come along. I’m excited about that one too, since it will have plenty of applications for me.
Other than that not much has been happening. Trying to keep afloat, trying to not get too pulled down in the mess that is National Politics right now, and doing what I can to make sure people VOTE. If you’re a U.S. Citizen make sure you have a plan to vote. Vote early if you can! It’s been a wild ride already, and I am pretty certain it’s just going to get wilder.
I work in TV, and one of the interesting things we tell young people entering the business is that you CAN’T copyright an idea, ONLY the expression of the idea…it gets tricky, but I explain that you can’t copyright a “makeover” show, only a show that “makes over” doorways to old buildings…the expression of the idea. Anyway, good luck with your class!

Way to go with your classes! I have already cast my vote, and encourage others to do so as well. Ah, the ins and outs of copyright law…such a contentious thing that is. Good luck with it. After many classes, I still have to do research sometimes.

Your classes sounds very interesting. Copyright must be a much more complicated thing now in the digital age compared ot only a few years back. Best of luck with your classes and I hope your tummy comes around soon. Have a wonderful weekend!

The classes all sound very interesting. I hope you get you GI issues tracked down. Have a great week! Oh, and my ballot is filled out and will be put in the box on Tuesday, at which time I will be able say “I already voted”…. I agree, always very important, this year even more than usual.

Hi Ali,
Sorry to hear about your GI issues. I have similar and have cut coffee back to once a week at the most. I couldn’t keep it down. I’m on Parriet but I have gaviscon every night. Tomatoes, and especially tomato paste, make it a lot worse. Stress naturally exacerbates it.
I have noticed that some coffees I have out are rougher than others on my stomach, and sometimes I just need a coffee.
Your courses sound interesting and challenging.
I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
Best wishes,
Rowena
