Welcome to distance coffee again! I hope you and yours are staying safe. Right now Oregon is kind of on fire. Where I live is pretty safe, I am feeling comfortable that the fires will stay away from my home, but also aware that anything could change at any point.
However, I have friends and family that are in evacuation zones, and it feels like we are all on edge. One more thing onto an already difficult year for all of us. The air outside is hazardous, and getting worse. This picture was taken on Wednesday afternoon, as the smoke descended. Earlier this week it was coming in, and then clearing out for a stretch during the day, but now it’s just here to stay…. for who knows how long.
It’s a rough time, but I am thankful that I appear to be in a safe place, that my friends and family are safe (even if their homes may be in danger, they are all paying attention and ready to get out if they need to, and that is what is truly important).
That is the bulk of what is on my mind at this point. Work and school continue on. The pandemic is still going strong and our local numbers are not great. Protests are continuing, and change is not happening fast enough. But right now my energy is being drawn by the fact that the air itself is hazardous and places I know are on fire.

It was a real shock to me to realize that those fires in Australia were in this same year… I have to admit I lost track of them when COVID started taking hold. It’s horrible to see these fires everywhere, and to know that we’re likely to see the pattern increase 😦

Some parts of our state have had a shocking year. Not only were they obliterated by fire, then came floods and finally COVID. We are meant to have a wetter summer this year so hopefully you might get that also in the future.

I guess there are more than one reason to wear a mask outside these days! Stay safe.

Absolutely! Unfortunately, the fabric masks that help for COVID don’t filter out the smoke and finer particles. Thankfully we have a few N95’s from some garage work, so we’ve got those in reserve for when we need to go outside. Air purifiers have been ordered and are on their way.

Here in Los Angeles, the entire city is under an orange cloud of smoke, due to fires just east of the city. While safe, we know that fires rage up and down the entire west coast…normally, a President would step up to help, but since these are Democratic states, NOTHING has been offered…

It is appalling, but, as you know, not terribly surprising. I hope you and yours are all staying safe… I have to admit I am REALLY not used to our air quality being worse than yours!

It’s crazy! I have friend all along the coast and all are safe, but ALL are close enough to fires to be worried, and the air quality is so bad everywhere! Glad you are safe as well!

Hi Alli. So glad you are safe and i hope you and your home stay safe. We are going to be up visiting SW Oregon in a few weeks as my son and his fiance have decided to get married on the Oregon coast. We are so looking forward to this and hope that we won’t spend the time all in-door due to smoke. Thanks again, and again, and again for hosting our coffee share. This has been a really long running blessing for me and I’m in your debt.

We’re supposed to get rain next week! Hopefully that will help us to clear our some of the smoke.

I have been thinking of you and other Internet friends, as Al and I have reached out to contact our family members in California and Oregon, this past week or so. Many friends in Washington state, too. Hoping for wetter weather for you folks. Take care!

I’m glad you’re safe. I just got an email from a friend in Grants Pass saying she’s safe, but the surrounding areas are on fire. Her son drives the water trucks for the fire department. Important work, but it sounds risky. We need brave people though.
