#WeekendCoffeeShare: Goodbye Car

Advertisements

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new)!

Grab a cup of coffee and share with us!  What’s been going on in your life? What are your weekend plans?  Is there a topic you’ve just been ruminating on that you want to talk about?

Join us!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party! Click here to enter your link! The party will remain open from September 13th at 7 am (PT) until September 17 at 7 pm (PT). All are welcome!!

Join me on this (likely) drizzly day for some coffee. I actually just got a new coffee pot, so I can offer you drip, pour-offer, french-press, or espresso. Or, of course, tea or hot cocoa… I feel so fancy with all these options!

Last weekend I was able to finally catch you up a bit about my vacation – but a lot has happened since then! We, unfortunately, had a bit of an incident with our car (everyone is totally okay, just not so much the car), so are now having to look for a new one. This leave Mom and I without a car for the time being, which has been a bit of an adjustment. For me it isn’t a huge deal – I just go back to my public-transit-riding ways. Mom is having a bit more of an adjustment – this is her first time in her adult life without a car in her household. Hopefully it’s temporary, we are putting out feelers and looking for a new (to us) one.

Because of the lack of car, the past weekend ended up being structured somewhat around getting things done as we could. A friend offered to take Mom and I to the store, so we took her up on that, and then she dragged us off to her place to feed us dinner. Never going to argue getting to spend time with those friends! But that took up pretty much all of my Saturday afternoon/evening. Saturday morning was devoted to volunteering with the library at a parade!

Apparently my town has a “Celebration Parade” in the summer. I’d heard of it, but never attended before. The library participates by handing out BOOKS! How could I NOT help with that? It was fun to see the way that kids faces lit up when they were handed a book all their own – some of them sat down right there and then and started reading them! It was delightful! But, it was also a LOT of walking – the parade route was about 1.5 miles, and because I am currently without a car I had to walk to and from bus stops on either end of that. The walk FROM the parade to the bus stop was covered a lot faster than I had originally intended, too, because I didn’t want to miss the bus and have to wait an hour for the next one! Exhausting day!

Sunday I did my regular volunteer shift at the library. I’m mostly shelving books there – which is giving my legs a workout I hadn’t expected!

This weekend I’ll be getting together with my Dad and Stepmom for a bit on Saturday – it’ll be fun to hang out with them again, it’s been a while. I’m hoping to also get done some of the work I had planned to get done last weekend – I REALLY want to get another project onto my loom!

What are you up to these days? What’s going on in your world?
