(Sorry it’s late today! I had a scheduling SNAFU)
Hi everyone! Thanks for joining me for coffee today!
This weekend kicks off with Friday – which is a normal work day for me, but also my mom’s birthday! She and I celebrated last Saturday, with a Birthday Shenanigans extravaganza.
For this Grand Celebration I had done a lot of prep-work… so the day started out with me giving Mom and mini-canvas, with a clue on it. Throughout the day, before we moved on to the next stop, I gave her another little canvas containing another little clue, that way she could spend some of the drive trying to guess what came next!
Brunch was our first order of business, at the Fireside Grill a local place that hosts a very lovely brunch on the weekends (with gluten-free bread options, since we both are gluten-intolerant). {[Clue and Menu] I had told her we were starting the day with Brunch, so that wasn’t a surprise, but where we would be having that brunch was, and that’s what the clue was for!}
Next up was a stop by an Open Garden (hosted by the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon). I’d coordinated with my brother (both he and my mom are members, I am not), to find out what was open and picked one that was open for the day!
After wandering around looking at all sorts of plants, we made our way to Kyra’s Bake Shop – I’d been there once before, but Mom hadn’t, and I was looking forward to buying her some delicious baked treats!
A country drive brought us eventually to an antique store, where I got Mom some tea-cups to commemorate her big birthday. Then to another coffee shop for some tea, a stop by a stamping/scrapbooking store, and on to paint night and dinner with friends.
It was an exhausting, but excellent, kind of day! This weekend I get to do some recovery – though Saturday night now includes dinner out with my older brother and a show/farewell event at our old high school (they’re tearing down the old building to build a new one, which is much needed but still sad to see the place go).
What do you have happening this weekend?
Thank you for a great cup of coffee! I will be visiting with family this weekend which I am so excited about because my only granddaughter is here with my son and his wife. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! ❤

What lucky mom!! She must have been on cloud nine.. 🙂 Bummer about your high school, I’d be sad too, even though I hated high school.. Any kind of “end of an era” is a bummer.

Hi Ali,
Sounds like you had a fabulous time celebrating your Mom’s birthday. You really got into it. I’ve been beavering away on my book and the mountain of research. I’m making great progress but much of that is still background preparation. The stories I am working on are more of a case where less is more. It’s more about perspective and finding the angle.
I went for a lovely walk this afternoon photographing trees and flowers en route while our daughter was at a dance audition. It as very refreshing.
Hope you have a great week.
Best wishes,
Rowena

Such wonderful activities! Best wishes for your week! It is sad, though, to see the old school buildings disappear or being transformed and repurposed. Memories!
