This weekend I invite you to join me by the lakeside. THIS is the view… isn’t it lovely? 20160821_071120I adore this place, it is a magical place for me. My favorite place in the world – Waldo Lake. I grew up coming here every summer for up to two weeks of camping.

This year I’ll “just” be up here for a week. A week out of cell-phone range, away from electronics (other than the camera on my phone!), this year I’m not even bringing my e-book reader. Physical books, spiral notebooks and pens… I figure my fiction writing has still been stalling out a bit so I might as well just go back to my roots. My earliest stories found most of there inspiration here, so hopefully it will help with this restart.

The trip this time around is going to be a little different – I’m introducing two new friends to the magic that is Waldo. It’s already become a favorite for another friend of mine, and her family, so they’ll also be joining me. And this year, after many years away, I’ve managed to convince my mom to join us for a few days.

So, I head down on Saturday with my dad and step-mom. Sunday my friends all show up (three adults, two kids!). Dad leaves Tuesday, Mom comes up Wednesday, we all leave Friday. It will be interesting to have so many people, and so much coming-and-going. We’re going to be getting two campsites (hopefully we can get the two we want, next to one another and near the beach!)

While I’ll certainly be hanging out with the kids, and the adults, a fair amount, I also plan to carve out some ME time. One of my absolute favorite things to do is sit on the rocks out on one of the peninsula’s and relax with my feet in the water.  Last time I was up the water level was low enough that I was actually able to wade to one of the islands… I don’t know what it will look like, but I have a feeling that might be the case again.

I’m also looking forward to swimming. A LOT. My entire body is still angry at me for staying in bed for the better part of a month back in April, and my legs (especially) are not pleased with this whole “surgery recovery” thing. My right ankle (surgery foot) is particularly finicky, and I can’t wait to spend some time moving around in the lovely low-impact environment of the water. It will be SO good. And there is nothing quite like swimming at the lake.

I’m also looking forward to the campfire! Smore’s!  At this point the site we’re going to is still on the list of campgrounds where campfires are allowed, hopefully it will remain that way!

Next week’s coffee share will be a “filler” page – like I had set up for a few of the surgery weeks back in April, since I’ll be still computer-less at the normal Coffee start time! But, I promise a great many pictures when I return!

Do you have a special place that you try to travel to on a regular basis?

  2. Looks very relaxing. I just like to go to the beach, by myself, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean, the sand, and all the rest. Ahhhh.

    Enjoy your time away!

  3. Sounds like a great getaway Ali and I hope you have a chance to delve into your writing and get a great kick start. I often find writing by hand really gets the creative juices flowing. It’s just a pain having to type it all up when those very same juices have overflowed.
I need to do some more writing myself. I’ve been doing so much research but need to ensure the research converts into stories.
One of my favourite places in all the world, which I like to keep going back to is Byron Bay Lighthouse: https://beyondtheflow.wordpress.com/2015/10/13/climbing-cape-byron-lighthouse/
You’ll soon see why we keep going back and there’s also an ice cream shop up there.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena
