Hey everyone –
I’m just not feeling much like writing today. Again. I’m just in a bit of a slump, and working my way through it. So,going to try bullet point updates today:

-My healing is coming along. Energy is still low, but the foot is healing up and I’ve been able to manage a few hours in regular shoes a few days this week. I don’t quite have my normal range of motion yet, but there’s minimal pain and most of what’s getting in my way is the swelling.

-I’m going to see the National Touring Company of Les Miserables on Friday night. I love the musical, and I adore the story, so am looking forward to seeing this production of it. I’ve seen two other stagings, both smaller theater companies, and can’t wait to see what the National Tour looks like!

-Saturday I get to go to a wedding of one of my good friends, which I’m really looking forward to. It’s going to be a lot of fun, one of those weddings that is somewhat low-key and really feels like a community coming together to celebrate the union of two families.

-I am completely overwhelmed and frustrated by what’s happening in my country. It’s been very challenging to find what to do, what to say, and how to continue to fight against the horrible things happening here. I’ve been wanting to write a post, but every time I sit down to do so I find myself at a complete loss of words. Meaning I have a document with links to articles, ideas, commentary, but no words of my own. It’s one more thing in the ceaseless onslaught. The resistance fatigue is real.

  1. Hang in there! Enjoy your musical and the wedding. It sounds like you have good things coming your way. I really enjoyed reading Les Miserables. Have you read the book? It’s thick and very detailed.

    1. I have – I read it back in High School and loved it. Been trying to work through a re-read this year, but it’s been slow-going. There is just SO MUCH in there, and a lot of it is pretty spectacular stuff that is nice to reflect on.

  3. Enjoy the good stuff. I too am exhausted over the our country’s path. Where is the real America? Vote, put pressure on those who are suppose to represent us.

  4. I hope you recover well from your injury. I, too, went from feeling a lot of feelings, having a lot of emotions, as well as thoughts I want to put down since last week and I jist couldnt seem to put down words. I’m giving myself time and letting it all settle for a bit and then let it all flow. Enjoy the musical, i would love to see Les Miserable if given the chance.

  5. I feel the same way you do about what is happening in this country. I’m not sure how to help, and anything I can do feels too small. Things are changing far too fast in the wrong direction and the slow and arduous path back to where we were already feels exhausting. I’m afraid, and I’m heartbroken, and every time I attempt to write about it, to work through it, the words fail me.
I’m glad to hear that you are still healing up though. I hope your weekend was enjoyable. Hang in there and thank you for the coffee.

  6. Hi Alli, Sorry to hear that you were kinda run down. Know that your adoring fans miss you when you are not at full strength, but you don’t owe us continued high-power quality all the time. I actually prefer the honesty and maybe even a chance to encourage you from time to time.
You may have seen the show by now and regardless, I hope you either did or will find even more deeply moving than the previous stagings you’ve seen.
I’m also sorry to hear that you too are ground-down by the events of our country. It seems like several of my friends and family are in the same frustrated boat. I wrote about it in my visit this week, but don’t feel that I have any answers – which for a guy – is a crummy place to be. I’m one of those who is happiest fixing things (well, unless there is a good book waiting for me). These days, a good book almost always wins when there are multiple calls for my attention.
Please attend well to your healing. It sounds like you’re making hard-won progress. Mine has been amazing mostly because my situation had such a clear and straight forward cure, but still, being this free of pain is such a God-send miracle.
I hope your full recovery is not far off.
    Blessings
    Gary
