#WeekendCoffeeShare: Tea and Scones!

wordswag_15073188796611453091488.pngWeekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new)!
Grab a cup of coffee and share with us! What’s been going on in your life? What are your weekend plans? Is there a topic you’ve just been ruminating on that you want to talk about?
All are welcome! Just add your link to the Linky-List, and be sure to visit others and join in their conversations! The link will be open from May 18th at 7am (Pacific Time) until Monday May 21st at 7pm (Pacific Time) to give us a good range of “weekend”!

Last weekend I overdid it a bit. I didn’t do much- just went to my Dad’s – but I ended up standing more than I had planned, and probably more than I should have. But part of it was because I was SO excited about the fact that I’d gotten new shoes.

I went into the shoe store Saturday morning with very specific criteria: I needed a sandal that was the exact same height as the surgical boot I’m wearing, with a back-strap and adjustable straps. The theory being that I’d be able to wear the left-shoe now, while I still have the boot on the right foot. Because none of my other shoes are the right height, the tiny difference was causing a bulging disc in my back to press even more strongly against the nerve, causing tingling and pain in my good side whenever I was standing for more than a few seconds. Shoes of the proper height eliminate that issue!

And, then once I graduate to weight-bearing physical therapy and can get out of the boot I can start wearing the RIGHT sandal as well. Since my foot will probably still be swollen, that will require the adjustable straps.

I was successful in this mission, and happily stood with my equal-height shoes. But it was still standing, which still uses the muscles and bones in my feet a bit more than they’re quite ready for, so I spent a lot of Monday a bit more sore than I would have expected. However, as the week wore on things settled a bit more. I’m still far from completely healed, but it’s nice to be making progress!

I’d offer you some scones, if we were having coffee. I have some delicious Gluten-Free one’s that I can heat up. I’m planning on enjoying some super-early on Saturday morning, because I’ve decided to go ahead and join my Mom in watching the royal wedding (which is at something like 4am my time). It’ll be fun, and I can then take a nap before getting on with the other things I am doing over the weekend!

What are you up to this weekend? What does the coming week have in store for you?

  1. New shoes! That is exciting! I need to get some new boots, and sandals for the summer. We’ll see when I take the time to do that. Probably not this weekend. I hope you feel stronger, and that it is getting a little easier for you every day that passes. There will be lots of hiking and gardening here this weekend.

  2. Hi Alli – Hope you’re feeling better by the minute. Question: are you not adding your coffee share link to the website on purpose or ?? Last week there was what seemed to be a great turnout, but lacking your link , they might not get to see their hostess… Just wondering. Thanks again for hosting our get together.

    1. Thanks for pointing it out Gary – I’m not sure what happened — it had been working (people signed up) but then it appears to have broken itself. I’ve re-pasted it and it seems to be working again!
      Thanks!

      1. Good Saturday Alli. If I knew your favorite morning drink, I’d have one ready for you, but I did want to let you know that I still don’t see your coffee post on the group list of links. Something is conspiring against you. I hope you are both feeling much better today and are behaving so you will continue to heal fast.

I am so tempted to tempt you to beat out a friend of mine who this week found my story collection and read almost half (14 of 30) of them in one day. That had to keep her tied up for over a couple of hours. She must read faster than the normal 200 words / min, but still – that was a record rip through my stuff to my knowledge.

Anyway, hope you have a great day.
        Blessings!

          1. Just when I think I have most of this blogging thing filed in my “Understood” folder, something like this comes along. I verified that link and it matched, I can still see other posts there – but not yours…
I don’t know what to make of it. If others can see it – then it has to be on my side – somehow… In the meantime I’ve bookmarked your main site so I can always find my way back. Rest and heal and have a great day.

  4. Hi, thanks for this great linky. I’d love to join in. However, the InLinkz text widget doesn’t work with my screen reader that I use because I’m blind (the submission button is a blur of javascript that doesn’t have any alt text attached). I’ve heard you can only use the image InLinkz (which paradoxically is accessible) if you’re a paid InLinkz subscriber, so I understand you may not be eager to do that. As an alternative, could I post my post in the comments or provide a pingback (and then maybe you or someone else could add it to the linky for me?)?

    1. Yikes! I didn’t realize it was a non-accessible link. Grrr.. I’m trying to get better about making sure I do things accessibly (my image descriptions being my big downfall at the moment). So – yes – add your link in the comment and I’ll happily add it to the InLinkz!

  5. Sorry to hear you may have overdone it a bit, but it sounds like progress was made with the new shoes, and I’m certainly happy to hear about that! Take it easy this week okay lol. Thanks for the coffee!
