Welcome!

How are you doing today? I hope you’re doing well. Let’s enjoy some nice coffee while relaxing inside. It’s been a rainy week, after a seriously amazing sunny weekend last weekend. I have to admit, I kind of like the rain – especially when I can enjoy it from the warmth and dryness of my house!

This weekend – this weekend I am hitting up Fogo De Chao with a friend of mine! I’m so looking forward to it — yes, it’ll be a bit of an indulge (or, more than a bit) but with the deal they have going for Portland Restaurant Month I just can’t resist! I look forward to a Saturday night spent laying around doing not much as my body digests all that amazing meat (and cheese bread… oh, the cheese bread).

I also plan to continue my work on getting my room in order. I figure that I’ll be spending the better part of April in it, so it might as well be NICE for me then. I have two surgeries coming up starting the second week of April – It’s still nearly a month away but it definitely looms large in my mind at the moment. Between now and then I have to bring order to a much-neglected room, figure out what kind of foods I want to have on hand, make sure I have projects of various types readily available, create lists of things I could watch and listen to depending on my level of functionality, and make sure the books I want to read are close at hand.

It’s a lot of work — and a lot of fun to think and plan. It’s not really a vacation, but for two weeks I’ll be pretty much house-bound, so I want to make the spaces as good as I can for myself.

I’ve also been dealing with the DRAINING act of trying to get Family Medical Leave paperwork together. Filling out forms and chasing down the Release of Information Department for my healthcare provider (who, as it happens is open for only 15 minutes before my work day starts, closed during my lunch break, and closed before I get out of work. Also they appear to have about two people answering the phones, because every SINGLE time I try to call them on a 15-minute break I spend my entire time on hold). Somehow they have managed to not get my paperwork returned to my place of work EVEN THOUGH THEY CLAIM IT’S BEEN COMPLETED FOR A MONTH. The second set of paperwork I submitted they haven’t received yet so… I’ll be swapping lunches with people and checking in right when they open until it gets handled. Not a fun way to spend my pre-work time, or my lunch-time, and it’s just frustrating.

Enough of that, though. This weekend holds some fun and I’m looking forward to that. I’m going to try to focus on that – on all the yummy food I’ll be eating and just how ridiculously full I’ll be after our meal.

How are you doing today? How has your week been? Anything exciting in the works?

  1. The only way to do Fogo de Chao is to plan on being there for three hours and taking your time! When my daughter was working at the hotel downtown, everyone on staff was given a gift certificate for two dinners at Fogo when they first opened. She saved it for awhile but then just before she got her gallbladder removed, she took me and we thoroughly enjoyed it. She planned it so it was the last day meal before she had to start her prep for the surgery. She called it her “last meal!”

  2. When one has a lot too do inside, it feels good when it rains on the outside. I hope you get everything organized the way you want. I’m an organizer too.
We had so much rain for a couple weeks that I would very much welcome spring. It’s supposed to be sunny tomorrow, fingers crossed. i have been working with my young horse, in small doses, but the rain makes it slightly challenging.
Thanks for the coffee! Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Love restaurant weeks. And, yes, there is nothing more frustrating than dealing with medical insurance. I am in awe of the arrogance when they deny, put off, question doctors orders. Good luck. Be well.

  5. Ali, good luck with the red tape and the surgeries. I hope it goes well for you. You will probably relate to my post as I’ve been tackling the NDIS here re my health and disability issues and I hate having to go over everything and having to stare it all in the face. Most of the time, I keep busy and don’t think about it all that much. I have been trying to get through The Book Thief and absolutely love the book but can’t seem to reach the end. Then, I checked the length and it’s about 600 pages so not surprising. I usually like a quick read, but a good one. Have you planned to read anything while you’re recovering?
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

  6. Fogo de Chao sounds like quite the place to check out! I googled it and found they just opened one here in Metro Detroit last fall! Thanks for the heads up, we’ll have to check it out. Wish you all the best with your administrative healthcare issues! I was fortunate mine went pretty smoothly with my hip surgery. BUT, I documented everything in Evernote. Dates, names, outcomes, everything. I knew if I didn’t, I’d end up needing notes I didn’t take! Good luck!!!
