Weekend Coffee Share – Stepping into the New Year

If we were having coffee I’d ask how you’re doing.  This stretch at the end of the year can be tough on people during the best of times — and there are many that argue that 2016 hasn’t been “the best of times.”  I know it’s been a rough one for me personally, but I don’t really want to dwell on that right now.  There’s too much that’s up in the air for me, too much that I can’t do anything about just now, so I’m trying to focus on other things.

I’ve been hard at work planning out what I want to accomplish in 2017, and thinking about how to make that happen. It has involved a lot of list making and putting things into my new planner.  I’m really excited to be getting to put it to use! I’m going to be doing some (minor) work around here – looking at creating some new banner art for my features, rework my categories and do some general cleaning up.

I’ll be aiming to write every day for the month of January to help get back into the regular writing habit — and READ every day as well, because my reading really fell off the edge this year. I’m hoping to post more about my reading plans in the coming month – in hopes that sharing will help me to actually follow through!

Probably the most challenging of my goals is looking at increasing my Jamberry business. I’ve done okay, getting my feet under me this year, but I would really like to be able to start using my commission to pay some bills so I’ll have to rev up what I’m doing.  Which means – gulp – pushing myself to reach out into the “cold market.” Like, talking to people I don’t know about them, and trying to find ways to get in on different events.  It’s daunting for me!

If we were having coffee I’d also tell you that today is a pretty special day.  One year ago I adopted Midnight Monster. He’s a handful, but I do adore him and he’s definitely been a good addition to my little household.

I’d tell you about my exciting New Years Eve plans!  I’m not generally one who goes out and does stuff for New Years Eve – a number of years I haven’t even managed to stay awake until midnight!  But this year I am going to a party at the library!  Loud at the Library — it should be fun. There’s going to be laser tag, mini  golf, dancing, drinks and food — all in the library!  I’m going by myself, which is somewhat frightening for me, but I’m sure I’ll have a grand time.  It’ll be cool to be going to an actual New Years Eve party – I’m excited to be getting dressed up and going out!

Do you have any New Years Eve plans?  How has your week been?  I should probably start moving on some of those other things I’m supposed to be doing today, but I’d love to hear about what has been up with you.

Happy New Year — may 2017 bring us pleasant surprises, I think we could all use them!

  1. Your library party sounds really cool. I can’t wait to hear all about it. We spend our New Years Eve quietly here at home. Hopefully, I will make it till midnight. 😊 Good luck expanding your business. I too would have a hard time with cold calls. Kudos to you for stepping outside your comfort box.

    1. It’s going to be strange to go out – usually I’m a pj’s, movie, and cheese and crackers at home kind of New Years Eve celebrator. But getting to spend the New Years surrounded by books just.. well… sounded too good to pass up!!
Luckily it’s not exactly cold calls – but reaching out to random people who express interest, learning to talk to people I don’t know (way better at that online than I am in person), and learning how to do a little selling without compromising my determination not to be pushy. It’s all good lessons in marketing that I’ll hopefully someday be able to apply to my my writing but for now… Nail wraps it is! 🙂
Thanks for the kudos — I’m really aiming to “Be Brave” in 2017.
