Monday Updates – Week of December 25th, 2016

I celebrate Christmas, and that’s ended up taking up a lot of my time this week — as well as fighting a nasty cold that seems to be taking hold of me.  So today I’m going to keep the update light:

Two entertainment related notes:

A&E has announced a plan to produce a docuseries that involved the KKK.  They say their intent was to combat racism, but the reality is that, in this current climate, anything that gives this group more air time is not going to be helpful. There was a outcry about this and the series has been canceled (not necessarily due to the outcry, but I imagine that helped them scrutinize it further).

The Rocketts are slatted to perform at Trumps inauguration – and not all the performers were pleased about this. At first it was sounded like they really had no choice, but after push-back in support of the right of the dancers to not have to join in this, the tune has changed.

That’s all I have this week.  No other news, no calls to action, just those two updates.  I know there are many more, but at the moment a headache is pressing its way through and I need to go sleep some more.

I aim to be back in normal form for our first Monday Update of 2017.

Update:  I did find a call to action to include here, for those who are so inclined!

Action: Ask the General Services Administration (GSA) to review their business agreement with the President-Elect
Educate yourself or others:
Act:
Send the following two emails:
1. To: The GSA Administrator Denise Roth: denise.roth@gsa.gov, comments@gsa.gov Subject: Please terminate the GSA’s violated contract with Donald Trump
I am writing to register my serious concern about President-elect Donald Trump’s lease of the Old Post Office building. Clause 37.19 of the contract between GSA and the Trump Organization specifically says that no elected official of the United States government shall be party to, share in, or benefit from the contract. President-elect Donald Trump’s position puts him in violation of the terms of the contract, and I am asking that the GSA immediately review this contract and remedy the conflict of interest.
Thank you for upholding the public interest and ending all business dealings with the Trump Organization, <Your Name>
2. To: GSA Inspector General Ochoa: OIG_PublicAffairs@gsaig.gov Subject: Please investigate Donald Trump’s conflict of interest at the Old Post Office
I am writing to register my serious concern about President-elect Donald Trump’s lease of the Old Post Office building. Your office is responsible for detecting and preventing fraud and mismanagement in the GSA, and President-elect Trump is positioned to exploit the powers of the presidency by being both landlord and tenant of the old post office.
Thank you for upholding the public interest by investigating and ending all business dealings with the Trump Organization, <Your Name>
