If We Were Having Coffee – Busy Week!

If we were having coffee I would tell you about the crazy week its been!  Last week’s coffee share was quite short, because the busy-craziness of this week had begun — and it’s just continued.
For Halloween I went to see 42nd Street — all dressed up in my Halloween costume. The show was fun, not quite to my musical tastes, but the dancing was spectacular! It was a downpouring day, and there was some serious flooding going on so I ended up having to reroute myself a bit to make it home (especially since I take public transit and the trains weren’t running downtown due to the flooding). By the time I got home I was soaked through,  but honestly there was something fairly nostalgic for me about arriving at my front door on Halloween night, all costumed up, absolutely drenched. I trick-or-treated at my door and then ran across the street to the neighbor who has lived there my entire life and trick-or-treated there. It was fun to climb the steps to his house and ring the doorbell, cry out “Trick-Or-Treat!” and then visit with him for a bit.

Saturday night I went continued the walk-down-memory-lane in a way. The local National Novel Writing Month midnight-kick-off was being held at the 24-hour diner down the street from me — the same one that I used to go to with friends back in High School. It was strange to be there at late hours, not something I’d done in years. I got a pretty good word-count at that, some good start on my story, but I haven’t been able to do much more writing since then.  I have had some good conversations and ideas about the story though, so I’m feeling pretty good about it anyhow.

The reason I haven’t gotten any other writing done is a mix of things. First there was the dental issues.  I had a tooth (towards the front of my mouth) break on Sunday night, so got into the dentist for an emergency visit Monday at the end of the day. They put a temporary crown on and started the process for a permanent crown. However, on Tuesday the temporary crown fell off, taking what remained of the tooth with it. I was able to get back into the dentist on Wednesday, and we decided the best bet was to get an implant. So Friday I had to go back to get fitted with a “flipper” — a temporary tooth that fits in my mouth kind of like a retainer, which is what I’ll use to not have a gaping hole a the front of my mouth until the implant process can happen.

I also have been dealing with some uncomfortable pain in one of my legs, that I went to the doctors Friday morning about — apparently, we think, it is a pinched nerve in my hip, so I am working on figuring out just how to handle that.
Meanwhile, my awesome friend who just finished up the season working as a ranger up on Mount Saint Helens is crashing at my place for a little.  Which means most of my time after getting off work has been filled with visiting, as well as most of my weekend. It’s been great visiting time – we were in college together, and this is the first extended visit time we’ve had since then, really.  Since I ended up taking all of Friday off due to the doctor-appointment-bookends, we went out for a sushi lunch and then to Powells for a bit.

Conveyor-belt sushi is the BEST!

Saturday we met up with my Dad and went to the Rice Northwest Rock and Mineral Museum.

A meteorite!! One of the cool things about the Rice museum is that lots of it was hands-on.

It was very cool, with lots of pretty rocks and fossils and petrified wood — I even got to pick some rocks from a rock pile which I’ll clean up and be doing some crafts with this fall!

Searching through the rock pile, in the rain, in heels and a skirt...

Busy busy time! Today I seem to be fighting a cold (lots of sneezing) so am planning to spend a lot of the day curled up reading and writing, maybe playing some games, and doing some cleaning and food prep for the week.
How has your week been?

Today’s post is a part of the Weekend Coffee Share, graciously hosted by Part Time Monster every weekend. A time for us to come together, share a cup of coffee (or our beverage of choice) to share some of what is going on in our lives.  It’s a lovely check-in!

  1. Busy week for sure. I had what I called a “hee-haw” tooth for a bit. The tooth cracked almost in half on an angle. Wasn’t pretty.
Hope you find more time to write (as I… woefully behind on mine.)
    Nice to meet you!

    1. The temporary “flipper” that they gave me looks awesome – I just wish it were more comfortable… but thankfully I only had the “hee-haw” tooth for a short time. When I’m home I take the flipper out and have a hole which is so strange to adjust to – makes me feel like I’m 7 again.

      1. I hear you. Funny how what is cute at 6-7 is not so much as an adult… hard not to judge someone missing a tooth as being well… hillbilly-ish! (it’s how I felt, anyway!)

  2. Wow what a full week. Amazing you had time for coffee at all. Still they sound like fun things you’ve been doing. Tell me, not being halloween savvy, does anyone ask for a trick and is it the house occupier that does the treat or the trick or treater. My mother would be telling you that you got your cold/flu from getting wet. I don’t believe it myself. Could be fun to be seven again but… hope the implant works well.
See you next week for coffee. Good luck with your week of writing.
