If We Were Having Coffee… Reflective moments

coffee2If we were having coffee I’d invite you to get settled in and comfy.  I’d offer you a hot drink, but maybe you’d prefer something cold?  The weather is amazing today and it’s the perfect kind of day to sit outside and enjoy the warmth and sunshine.

If we were having coffee I’m want to reflect some… you see this weekend is an anniversary of sorts.

I feel like there are a handful of points in one’s life that you can look back at and pinpoint as pivotal turning points in your life.  Do you have any moments like that?

Last year, this weekend was marked by extreme highs (a poem I wrote being Freshly Pressed) and crashing lows (the death of my grandpa).  It was an emotional roller-coaster, and the year that has followed has been equally unpredictable.

But I feel like that weekend set into action so many things that have culminated in where I am now.  Sitting here willing to do the daunting hard work that is needed to meet the vision I have.  A vision of what I want to be doing, where I want to be, and who I want to be.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that, honestly, this is the first time in over 15 years that I have been truly comfortable with a clear vision of the direction I want to be going.  It is an amazing feeling, and I know that all that has happened this year, the ups and the downs, have helped to get me there.

That’s really what’s on my mind as we sip our coffee in the sunshine.  I find it amazing how the world can be so unpredictable sometimes.

Today’s post is a part of the Weekend Coffee Share, graciously hosted by Part Time Monster every weekend! A time for us to come together, share a cup of coffee (or our beverage of choice) to share some of what is going on in our lives.  It’s a lovely check-in time.

  1. I’m so happy to have a moment to share a cuppa with you and enjoy the beautiful weather! I’ve had many moments of insight in my life which rise my heart like a helium balloon. Today was another pivotal moment–the realization that I am a good writer 😀 I think that I’ve evolved since I started writing on a daily basis.

I am so happy that you have reached such a moment in your life. It’s a cause for celebration 😀

    1. Glad you could join me!
Realizing you are a good writer is awesome!! I’ll admit that some of the feedback and support I’ve been getting for my fiction this month has motivated me on the novel (and reassurance about life-direction)! It’s good to be reminded that you can write! 🙂
It’s also fun to see how our writing does evolve… I’ve been writing a long time, and my style (and ability) have been constantly evolving!

      1. Your welcome 😀 I think it’s important to support each other as writers. Part of being a writer is to constantly uncover new vulnerabilities as well as accomplishments. It is so wonderful to come across another creative soul 😀 BTW your guest post will be featured on my blog on Thursday.

    1. I’ve been doing so much reflecting over the past few years (seminary requires SO MUCH) I feel like I’ve gotten very good at it. Which has probably helped me in being able to do so, so quickly, and to feel so comfortable in where I am now.

    1. Great to have you for coffee again! (And sorry I’m so slow in responding, for some reason my comments-filter thought this was spam… bad comment filter!) I am very joyful (and more than a bit frightened, I’ll admit) at having this clarity. Sometimes I want to kick myself because, if I’d actually been paying attention, I would have known this was the path long ago. Follow your heart! Trust your gut! Even when it scares you!

  3. Thank you for the cuppa, I had a similar moment last year when I realised that all I wanted to do was write. Congratulations in reaching this point, I hope it feels good and life is flowing well.

  4. The weather here is finally beautiful today after a long week of thunderstorms, so we’re enjoying it, too.

I know exactly what you mean about those pivotal points in life–they’re only recognizable in retrospect, but some events, or sequences of events, become markers for things. Glad things are settling down for you and that you’re becoming more comfortable now. 🙂

    1. I feel like this one was unique because I knew in the moment that some of it could be life-shaping (the blog attention) but others (my grandpa dying) I had no idea would shape the way the rest of the year fell into place.
I am so glad things are settling down now… hoping this year is far less eventful. I could use a good year of nothing exciting (though, I guess I really wouldn’t mind some exciting~ of certain varieties of excitement!)
