If We Were Having Coffee #21

My espresso machine is still novel enough to be exciting, and I just acquired some cool cups and saucers so have the ability to serve up little cups of espresso, lattes, things like that for coffee today.  I’m still working on my milk-frothing skills though so… it won’t necessarily look pretty — I’ll get there though!

If we were having coffee I’d ask how your New Years Celebrations went — did you have a good time?  Did you make it to midnight, or were you asleep early?  Or is staying up until midnight par for the course for you?

I stayed up this year… it was a bit of a challenge — the past few years I haven’t made it to midnight, low-key celebrations all the way.  This year, though, was different.

For a few years a friend of mine has been hosting Friendsgiving.  Basically, when she’s back in town (about once a year) she has an event, inviting friends that live in the area.  This year we went in together on a beach-house rental, celebrating New Years Eve on the Oregon Coast.  It was awesome!

There was a whole crew of us, some I have known a long time, some that I didn’t really know.  It was cool to spend a few days with friends, seeing the kids run around like the wild-crazy-ones they are (I LOVE those kiddos).  I got to spend time wandering around the beach-town, and on the beach.

We opened a champagne bottle with a sword, which was very cool.  Midnight was spent out on the beach, watching people set off fireworks all around us, greeting the new year.  It was spectacularly fun.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I’m excited to be gearing up for another writing blog-hop, an Un-birthday Celebration.  It’ll be great to have another group-writing project, I had a lot of fun with the Masquerade Ball in October.  I’m hoping that I’ll have at least as good participation as I had in October.

How are you doing?  What was your week like?  What’s coming up for you this month?

  1. I usually spent my new years eve at home with my wife and kid and a few close friends or relatives, it was fun though and cozy. No spectacular coffee events, just a senseo machine. The rest of the week I had to work, just like coming week. Boring isn’t it?

    1. Most of my new years have been spent in a small group (and this was a pretty small group) definitely my speed — fun, cozy, comfortable.
My original plans had been work, work, work, day off, work — but the plans of my friends let me change that, and I was glad off it!
Hope you got to have some fun (whatever that looks like for you) over the weekend!

  2. I spent New Year’s Eve with my son. We used to pop a cork of sparkling juice but this time it was sparkling wine. We watched crazy movies that made us laugh. To me, it was the perfect way to end one year and begin a new one.

Plans coming up: nothing much, just plugging away on my wip and submitting some shorts. 🙂

    ’til next time.
